The Pill
A short film exploring tension, choice, and consequence — shaped through sound, pacing, and story structure.
Overview
When a woman with a troubled past meets a man who shares her pain, they find solace in each other's company, but when tragedy strikes during a burglary, the woman's reliance on her memory altering medication only grows stronger leading her to confront the truth about her loss.
My role
- Sound design (ambience, foley, transitions)
- Story writing (beats, pacing, tension build)
- Cut notes + narrative clarity passes
- Final polish for mood + continuity
Process
- Intent: Define the emotional arc first (calm → doubt → pressure).
- Structure: Tighten beats so every moment earns the next.
- Sound pass: Use layers (room tone + accents) to guide attention.
- Polish: Clean transitions, reduce noise, and sharpen impact moments.
Outcome
- Created a clean, mood-forward soundscape that supports the story
- Improved pacing and clarity through beat tightening
- The Film won the best cinematography at Simon Fraser University Film Awards.
